Collection: The Great Commission
The disciples stood together, hearts still raw from the whirlwind of events: the unspeakable sorrow of the cross, the elation of the resurrection. Now, on the Mount of Olives, they watched as Jesus, their teacher, their Savior, their everything, spoke His final words of blessing. His eyes, filled with love and divine purpose, met theirs one last time before He began to rise. Slowly He was lifted from the earth, ascending into the heavens, His form bathed in radiant light. The sky seemed to welcome Him home, until finally, He disappeared into the clouds. A holy silence fell over them, the weight of the moment pressing into their souls. He was gone, yet His presence lingered, His promise still echoing in their hearts— "I am with you always, even to the end of the age."
The disciples stood, eyes fixed on the sky, overwhelmed with awe, grief, and wonder all at once. How could they go on without Him? And yet, just as doubt crept in, two figures in white appeared, their voices like a gentle reassurance.
"Why do you stand looking into Heaven? This same Jesus will return in the same way you saw Him go." A renewed sense of purpose filled them. He had entrusted them with a mission, and though He was no longer physically beside them, His Spirit would guide them. Their sorrow turned to anticipation, their fear to courage. With hearts burning with faith, they turned back toward Jerusalem, ready to carry the Gospel to the ends of the earth.
